To gain freedom from the yoke of the IRS we have to follow a two-pronged approach

  1. We have to get good data - this is very important because most of the information we get, especially from the 'service' itself, is plain wrong (incorrect quoting or interpretation of the law is only one part.) Once we are armed with the correct information, even though we don't have a silver bullet as some gurus might promise us, we do have a much firmer stance. Let's be clear, there is no silver bullet just based on the correct information only because the 'service' intentionally twists the facts and it will not suddenly back out when caught with the hand in the cookie jar.
But it is definitely better to have a house built of bricks that can not be huffed and puffed into oblivion as many of the 'theories' out in the wild of the internet.
  2. We have to practice, practice, practice not to fall prey of fear-mongering. This is done by facing worst case scenarios - in the comfort of your own home, as the commercial goes - and really look and see that possible outcomes are actually not as bad as we imagined, or not bad at all. Just to flesh this out with one little example - we are so in fear of losing our credit rating that we do the weirdest things not to drop any of those points. But what do you need credit for - and a credit rating - if you have enough money to just buy the things you want? And this will be the case once you stop the 'service' from stealing bigger part of your money.

In the information provided here we will tackle more the 'correct data' part of our adventure. When you start looking for the correct information about tax law and the 'service' you will undoubtedly run into a lot of wrong information. I will not assume that false information is injected into the system intentionally, but it is also not that far fetched that the 'service' will do that just to 'serve' you better. Many of the wrong paths are probably just based on 'fortunate' inefficiency and dilettantism of the 'service.'

Maybe somebody comes up with a new silver bullet to 'beat' the IRS, and sends in his request for a refund based on his theory.

This request is handled by a minimum wage elementary school drop-out hired by the 'service,' who, lacking specific instructions not to grant that request, sends a refund check to the requester. This silver bullet inventor now tells everybody how you 'beat' the IRS. Once there are enough refund requests of that kind coming into the 'service' they get the attention of a higher educated high school dropout, the stone starts to roll and within a few years the silver bullet does not work any more and all the received refunds have to be returned, obviously with interest and penalties. There really is no reason for the 'service' to be expedient, because the interest and penalties probably add up to more than just having the money in the bank.

To be really clear, there IS NO silver bullet! If there was then the school yard bully could be stopped by showing him the law that makes it illegal to punch you in the face. But knowing what's the best angle to hit that bully over the head with a law book does make a difference.

Otto Skinner was the bright light amongst many of the gurus out there promising tax freedom. It is sad that he has left this plane of existence not too long ago. Before he had left I would have just sent you to his web site and told you to get his books and newsletters and study the principles. But shortly after his passing the web site was gone, and there are only a few of his books available at horrendous prices as used books on Amazon. So I decided to put his newsletters of four years up here on this site so that they might be useful for somebody.

It would be great if we could send in donations for his family but I don't even know if he indeed has family. My only direct contact with him was via email some ten years ago, I never had the honor of meeting him or speaking with him in person. If you know where his materials are still available so that the proceeds will go to his heirs, please let me know and I will change these pages here so that the money flows where it belongs. But lacking this information I prefer to have his material be put to better use than sitting on my hard drive.

So, without further ado, here are Otto Skinner's newsletters, where he goes into details of the law and shows some very interesting court room proceedings.
